Harnessing the Power of Chemistry for Sustainable Future

The 12th International Conference of the Kenya Chemical Society (KCS) and the 10th Federation of African Societies of Chemistry (FASC) Congress will be held jointly from September 9 to 11, 2026, at the United States International University-Africa (USIU-A) in Nairobi, Kenya.

This joint conference brings together the two societies under a shared vision of "Harnessing the Power of Chemistry for a Sustainable Future"

By co-hosting these flagship events, KCS and FASC create a powerful multidisciplinary platform for addressing some of the most pressing global challenges—climate change, public health, energy security, food safety, water access, and environmental sustainability. The conference provides an inclusive space for researchers, policymakers, and industry leaders from across Africa and beyond to present innovative findings, exchange ideas, and build transformative partnerships.

With a rich program covering diverse sub-themes—from green chemistry and materials science to AI in chemistry and chemical safety —this joint conference underscores the power of chemistry as a transformative force for sustainable development in Africa and beyond.

Objectives

The 12th KCS International Conference in conjunction with the 10th Federation of AfricanSocieties of Chemistry (FASC) Congress is organized with the following objectives:
  1. To promote interdisciplinary collaboration among scientists, researchers, educators, and industry professionals in the field of chemical sciences.
  2. To provide a platform for presenting and discussing cutting-edge research that contributes to sustainable development through chemistry.
  3. To enhance knowledge exchange and innovation across key thematic areas including health, energy, water, environment, agriculture, materials science, and AI-driven chemistry.
  4. To strengthen capacity building and scientific networking, particularly among young African scientists, students, and early-career researchers.
  5. To explore emerging trends and technologies such as green chemistry, nanochemistry, computational methods, and artificial intelligence in solving global challenges
  6. To foster dialogue between academia, industry, and policymakers to align chemical science innovations with national and regional development goals.
  7. To raise awareness and promote best practices in chemical safety and security, responsible care, and sustainable chemical management.
  8. To showcase practical applications of chemistry in addressing pressing issues such as climate change, food security, clean energy, and public health.
  9. To encourage publication and dissemination of high-quality research through peerreviewed journals and conference proceedings.
  10. To position Africa as a growing hub for chemical sciences innovation, contributing meaningfully to global scientific discourse and sustainable development.
